What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid USA is an evidence-based training— like regular First Aid or CPR — sponsored by the National Council for Mental Wellbeing that’s designed to give people the skills to help someone who may be developing a mental health challenge or experiencing a mental health crisis.

Which training is the best fit for me?

The MHFA - Coaches2Coaches trainings are for those who coach youth, adolescent and emerging adult athletes - from rec sports to Olympians.

The MHFA - Parents2Parents trainings are for parents / guardians of youth, adolescent and emerging adult athletes.

The MHFA - Sport Professional trainings are for coaches, athletic trainers and other sport professionals who work with youth, adolescent and emerging adult athletes.

What will I learn?

Mental Health First Aid is an evidence-based curriculum that teaches you 1) how to identify, understand, and respond if you think a young person may be developing a mental health challenge or experiencing a crisis; 2) signs and symptoms of mental health challenges, like anxiety disorders, depression, ADHD and eating disorders; 3) how to approach a young person you’re concerned about; and, 4)how to connect to resources.

How does it work?

After registration, you’ll complete 2 hours of self-paced, pre-work and then participate in a live 5 hour MHFA training (virtual or in-person) with like-minded adults who care deeply.

Upon completion, you’ll be welcomed into WholeHealth Sport Nation and a private membership space where you’ll be challenged apply newly learned skills and elevate your own mental fitness and wellbeing.

What’s included in WholeHealth Sport Nation?

Six weeks of challenges focused on applying skills learned in MHFA to your community/family/campus.

Monthly Roundtable Discussions where peers discuss their own experiences using the ALGEE Action Plan for feedback, shared wisdom and support.

Quarterly mental wellbeing and sport webinar with dynamic guest experts in the field discuss relevant topics.

Resource bank with tips, tricks + tools dedicated to coach and athlete wellbeing.

Why not just take Mental Health First Aid?

We wholeheartedly believe in the Mental Health First Aid training as is - which is why we teach it. AND. We know from our personal and professional experience that the application of knowledge is where true transformation happens.

There’s no shortage of places to turn for support on the technical and physical fronts of sport. We’re committed to building the infrastructure so all coaches, parents and other sport professionals have a place to stretch, grow, collaborate, troubleshoot and tap into a network of support on the well-being front.

What’s the cost?

Enrollment includes 7-hour training, digital access to participant manual, Participant Processing Guide, self-care worksheets AND 3-year access to the WholeHealth Sport Nation membership space. The cost is $375 for three-year certification and access to Whole Health Sport Nation.
